Talks at BAFTA

In February, I was lucky enough to attend a talk at BAFTA given by Cynthia Erivo, one of the EE Rising Star nominees.

Best known for her performance as Celie in The Color Purple on Broadway in 2015, Erivo has more recently starred in the film ‘Widows’, directed by Steve McQueen.

Erivo's talk was truly wonderful and re-ignited that flame of passion for this sometimes very difficult industry. Her words reminded me exactly why I wanted to go into acting and that remaining true to yourself is always the best way to go; we shouldn't have to change ourselves for anybody!

Her speech also reminded the audience of the importance of kindness and sharing and how we can collectively come together to make this industry a more supportive and giving one.

All in all I found Erivo's speech to be passionate, inspirational and incredibly down to earth - I left feeling rejuvenated and filled with some very wise words.

Lurking in the corridors at BAFTA!
